Mushroom Cultivation Workshop ~ Fungi 101

Please join GMO Free NJ and the staff of Camp Creek Run for a fun filled day learning all about mushrooms. Much of this wonderful day of discovery will be held outdoors. Please dress accordingly.The workshop will be split into two sections.

Section 1: Hike through woods
* It will be presented by local naturalist Keara Giannotti.
* Keara will guide us on a mushroom foray through the woods.
* We will learn about edible mushrooms.

Section 2: Mushroom Cultivation
* We will spend the rest of the afternoon inoculating logs with mushroom spawn. Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms are slated for the workshop. However, due to supplies, it may be a different variety of mushroom.
* We will each take home a fair share of logs.
* We will also get some winecap spawn along with cultivation instructions.

We will be walking through the woods at the camp. Please bring the necessary clothing and equipment you feel you need. We suggest the following items which you may want to bring: gardening gloves, a water bottle, a camera, a notebook and pen, clothes and shoes that you dont mind getting dirty, an electric drill if you have one. If you have a corded or cordless drill, and don’t mind volunteering it for the day, please bring a 5/16 drill bit with you.
