Action Alert! GMO Salmon!

salmon

On December 21, the Friday before Christmas weekend, the FDA quietly gave their approval to genetically engineered salmon.  This is the first engineered animal intended for the human food supply.  The public comment period ends on April 26, and our comments are needed now.  Please take a few moments, click on this link and comment on all three items.  http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=FDA-2011-N-0899

Please share this information with your family, friends and neighbors, they need to be flooded with comments if we are to influence the outcome.

Also, please contact President Obama and tell him that you don’t want GE salmon to be approved and that you want all genetically engineered foods to be labeled.

Do-it-nowOn Monday March 4 the Senate Health Committee will hear testimony on a bill to require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. PLEASE call on the members of the Committee and ask them to vote yes on a bill with strong language that is consistent from state to state and with a threshold of .9%. seeds

On Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m., the Collingswood Public Library will host a gathering of citizens initiating action in the community with a goal of restoring our food choice freedom. Together we will study the impact of the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are in our food supply, learn how to avoid them and explore ways to increase awareness about this serious global crisis.

Know your GMO-free food source — grow your own! Begin planning now and start by taking a virtual walk through the growing season with Master Gardener Gwenne Baile. After her talk, Gwenne will answer questions and lead a discussion about planting a sustainable garden. We will also have time to plan the next step of sowing seeds of GMO awareness.

Bring a friend! We will have DOOR PRIZES! Lucky winners of our drawing receive GMO-free seeds!

Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Bringing a dish is optional, but if you do, make sure it is non-GMO and bring copies of the recipe to share! We will munch and mingle and then move on to our monthly GMO awareness meeting which will feature video maker Dana Master who will present our community video project.

Yes! We are making a video that will help people see how easy it is to take positive actions towards healthier living, so come with your ideas for becoming more GMO free!
